public schools cost so much and the drop rate is so high because students are forced to take classes they are not interested in. Why does someone who wants to be a doctor have to take Shakespeare? Why does an athlete need to be forced to take physical education? stop the teacher's unions

I know it may not be fun to take those English classes, or physical education classes, but they are important. This is one reason why I identify as a classical liberal rather than a libertarian.

The public education system was by design used to produce workers and not thinkers. Passing students with failing grades so they won’t feel left behind. Laws like No Child Left Behind is a joke. If you can’t do the work, you fail. That’s how it is in the real world, and school need be no different.

Why should a doctor learn Shakespeare? So he/she can relate to a patient in terms other than medical. Why does an athlete need to learn physical ed.? So when they retire the can have a career, or maybe to teach youngsters about more than just sports.
